Firstly, a very warm welcome to all new Academy players and their parents/guardians and welcome back to all returning Academy players. Newbridge Town FC Skills Academy is the starting block for young children. Its purpose is to introduce our future stars to the game of football in a fun, safe and enjoyable environment. The Academy will provide football in a non-competitive environment. Our Academy has quickly become the choice for parents in Kildare who want their children to receive the best possible football education between the key ages of 4 and 8 years of age. All coaching is based on the principles of skill development, using both feet, spatial awareness, ball control and technical development. At Newbridge Town FC we see coaching as the future. We believe that with our already top class facilities in place that if we raise the level of coaching within the club, then we in turn will raise the standard of football and players produced. Our player to coach ratio is extremely low at approx. 8:1 which means our trainees receive the closest possible attention. Newbridge Town FC Skills Academy is the starting block for young children. Its purpose is to introduce our future stars to the game of football through a fun, safe and enjoyable environment. The idea is to awaken an interest in football at an early age with importance being placed on skills, fun and participation not to mention fair play.

The Academy is currently using FUNINO – a small sided games programme developed by Horst Wein a University Lecture and former German and Spanish Olympic Hockey Teams Coach. His methods have been used for many years by a number of Football Federations including the Spanish Football Federation.  FUNINO uses smaller pitch sizes and player numbers to encourage greater participation and more touches of the ball for all involved. The use of 4 goals out wide (without goal keepers) helps to alleviate the normal crowding or swarming traditionally experienced within these age groups and to assist with spatial awareness.

Newbridge Town FC also recently announced that we have signed a long term partnership agreement with the Celtic FC, one of the World’s best football development brands. This partnership will give our coaches direct access to thousands of age specific drills, exercise materials and coaching plans. Furthermore, our partnership will see Celtic FC coaches visit Newbridge Town F.C. to conduct coach education training courses based on the Celtic FC Academy system. Further details relating to this exciting partnership are available on our website.

Over the season we will monitor the progress of the footballers and also where possible arrange some friendly blitzes. Remember the emphasis is not on matches but skills development. Lots of qualified coaches will be present, providing basic coaching for beginners and more advanced training for the experienced players.

The Academy program includes the development of a range of skills as well as inter-academy friendly games with other like-minded Clubs. Academy teams also take part in Academy blitz tournaments which are always exciting. The Academy season runs from September to the end of June. After spending a number of years going through our Academy programme, young players then have the chance to graduate into the world of league football (DDSL) with Newbridge Town FC at U9. While the Academy will do their best to develop players by the time trials start at U9 there are no guarantees that players will be selected on to teams straight away. However, the club will do their utmost to have a number of teams for different abilities levels.

The key focus is to value skill development, using both feet, spatial awareness, ball control and technical development over league or match results. This will be achieved by providing an enjoyable, exciting and stimulating environment with quality and safety as our hallmark.

Our academy will strive to develop player sense of belief, self esteem, motivation and desire to play soccer at the highest level in keeping with their ability.

At all age groups skills ‘homework’ will be given to the children. Please ensure your child attempts these skills as this type of self-learning is critical to their development as a footballer. Children will be assessed throughout the year on a number of technical skills to measure their progress.

For some age groups there will be extra training. This will be by invitation only and will depend on available resources.

It is expected that all players that register for our Academy programme will be available and on time each week. If you are aware that you are unable to attend training on time or on a regular basis due to other extracurricular activities, please reconsider your participation in the Academy this year. Your inability to commit to the programme is disruptive and takes up a slot that could be allocated to another child. Players must be ready to train at 10.15am each Sunday. No late arrivals will be permitted once the session has started. As you can appreciate this is disruptive to other players and coaches. The Football Academy can provide a facility for the club into the future, looking after the interests of a number of age groups that will continue on through the club for many years to come.

Programme will run over 3 x 8 week sessions over the season.
