Newbridge Town F.C. was founded in 1969 when a group of boys, under the guidance of Joe Barry and Tony Hannigan, from the Newbridge Youth Club decided they wanted to form a soccer team. The new Club entered the Counties Division 2, finishing fourth and winning the Counties Cup in their first season. In succeeding years they won Division 2 and Division 1 and progressed to the Leinster Junior League where they quickly established themselves against such renowned clubs as Cherry Orchard, Home Farm, Wayside Celtic etc. They moved relentlessly up through the Divisions and into the Leinster  Senior League and won the Senior Division in the 1998/1999 season.
