Newbridge Town 1-1 Killester Donnycarney

League leaders KDFC were the visitors last night to Station Road. The game started with the home team on top when early pressure told as Jess McNulty was taken down in the box, Brooke Dunne scored the resulting penalty to put the home side 1 up with a clinical spot kick. The game ebbed and flowed for the rest of the half and remained 1-0 at the break. Newbridge losing a couple of players to injury as Killester became more physical.

The second half started with the away side on top but the home defence stood firm with the two Ellas at the back repelling what was thrown at them, Caitlin, Brooke and LJ in midfield getting through trojan work, Kate in goal was comfortable and really only had to deal with some long range shots and the odd corner. In 76’ minute the away side got their equaliser with a fine header from a cross on the left.

Newbridge finished the game strong and were unlucky not to take all 3 points. A good point for the Premier Division newcomers against a well established Killester side was a good nights work from the girls.

Everyone played well but special mention to Tara Christie on the left wing who caused trouble all game with her pace, Mia O’Connell at the back was solid and Abbi Stafford on the right wing got through a massive amount of work also. But from 1-16 all girls were super. Up next is Phil Henry cup last 16 game on Monday away to Raheny in St Anne’s park.

Best wishes to Carly who picked up a bad injury and we hope it’s not too serious.
